Tacoma is also knows as the "City of Destiny" seeing as the town was chosen was the western-most terminal for the Northern Pacific Railway in the late 1800's.
Brewery Blocks is revitalizing the former warehouse district that fed goods into the transcontinental railroad and created jobs leading to a population boom in Tacoma. A century ago, freight trains would load up materials on Commerce Street from floating docks, whose awnings are still part of the design today. Until a few years ago, those rails were still visible on Commerce Street.
